Das IAP ist Mitglied der Zuse-Gemeinschaft. Der Schwerpunkt des IAPs liegt auf dem weichen Röntgenbereich. Es entwickelt und nutzt prozessnahe Röntgenanalytik, röntgenoptische Systeme und entsprechende wissenschaftliche Geräte für Forschungsprojekte.
